Sanibel Island Getaway Part 1

At the end of April, the Hurry family traveled back down to Sanibel Island, Florida. We were so blessed by our trip there last year and couldn’t wait to get back.  Our week was filled with much relaxation as we enjoyed the local culinary delights and hung  out at the beach. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, blue skies and sunny all week.

One of the highlights of the week was taking a cruise aboard the  Pieces of Eight pirate ship. Ethan did great. He danced, clapped, got a pirate tatoo, got hazed a bit by the resident pirates, and he even got to grab some loot from the pirate treasure chest (check out the photos below to see some pics of the adventure)

(Video to come in Sanibel Island Getaway Part 2 post, stay tuned..)

Hurrys Chi-Town Adventure

Earlier this month, Bridget, Ethan and I spent the weekend in Chicago and introduced our little man to the “Windy City”. We got to get away as a family and experience Chicago together and it was great to see the city during the Christmas season, all decked out in holiday decorations.

We stayed at Hotel 71 which is in a great location downtown on the Chicago River, within walking distance to some downtown hot spots. We arrived on a Friday evening and started the wknd out with a pizza delivered from Giordano’s, one of our favorite Chicago pizza spots and spent the rest of the evening getting settled. The Hurry family loves pizza (especially Chicago style)!

Saturday, we got to spend the day walking around the city, checking out some shops. We took Ethan through Macys (Chicago’s original Marshall Fields) so he could see all the decorations and toys they had displayed. We also picked up some world famous Frangos Mint Meltaway Chocolates and stopped by the Walnut Room briefly to check out the amazing Christmas tree setup there.  We then spent the remainder of the morning in Millenium Park and had lunch at Park Grill, a restaurant right in front of Cloud Gate (otherwise known as “The Bean”. ) There was an outdoor ice skating rink right in front of the restaurant, so we had a great view of all the action from our window seat. We relaxed at the hotel in the afternoon and headed back out for the evening for a stroll down Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile” and had dinner at foodlife, located in Water Tower Place.

Sunday morning, we had breakfast at the Tempo Cafe, had some great food there and wrapped up our Chicago visit shortly thereafter. It was nice to get away for the weekend. Enjoy the pics!

Rocky Mountain Hurrys

Last month we had the opportunity to travel to Colorado and spend time with friends and family in Boulder and Aspen. It was such an amazing trip. Our journey started off a little chilly and wet as we landed, and in a place that boasts 300 days of sunshine a year, you would think showing up in short sleeves and shorts would be alright, but that’s what I get for not checking the weather. As is the nature of the weather in Colorado, quickly turned to sunshine within the next day.

Our stay in Boulder was great and we got to spend some time with friends there. One of the highlights was getting take out from our favorite restaurant in Boulder, Sherpas, and we warmed our bellies with some Yak stew, delicious,… We then made the drive over independence pass through hail and every kind of adverse condition you can imagine (we passed a car that was flipped over) and we arrived in Aspen safely. We stayed with Bridget’s Aunt and Uncle and some other family friends that were there for the extended wknd as well. Such a beautiful city. We ate many a good meal (including eating at famous Woody Creek Tavern), took regular walks through town and surrounding parks, and we even hiked up a trail toting Ethan on our back, so quite the adventures. Pics are below, enjoy!

The Hurry’s Sanibel Vacation

We had the opportunity to spend a week down in Sanibel, Florida last month, and we had such an amazing trip. This was our first vacation with Ethan and his first time to the ocean and the beach, so some good family history in the making. We stayed at a beautiful home in Sanibel, right by Captiva, and it was great to get away from the daily grind and be together as a family here in paradise. We wanted to share a bit of our vacation experience with you through the video  we took, along with some of the highlights and stories,.. it was quite the adventure. Enjoy!
