Consider Making Year-End Donation to ServLife on behalf of the Hurrys

ad_building_120As the end of the year approaches, if you are looking for some avenues for your year-end giving, Bridget and I wanted to invite you to consider making a donation to ServLife. I have been on staff with ServLife for almost 3 years, and it is a great organization that is doing some amazing work around the world.

Bridget and I are setting a goal to raise $500 by the year’s end. You can make a donation through our fund raising page. Thank you in advance for your help and considering making a donation to this cause.

Your support serves the mission of ServLife to restore hope to children and the global poor through:

  • Training Indigenous Leaders to share Christ and start churches
  • Rescuing and Caring for Children at Risk through orphanages and sponsorships
  • Starting Small businesses among the poor

ServLife Staff Blogs to Check Out

I work for ServLife International, a global missions organization, and I wanted to share some blogs of some of our staff members that are very well done and fascinating to follow.

  • Joel Vestal- ServLife President and founder. Joel is my boss and he is the founder of ServLife, which he began 15 years ago while a student at Baylor. He has since traveled to over 70 countries, has helped start ministries all over the world, he’s a big reader and always has interesting and challenging things to share, he preaches all over the U.S., has written a book published by NavPress, Dangerous Faith, and always has posts documenting his travels.
  • Steven and Amy Nicholson – The Nicholsons are based in South Africa and also have ongoing ministries in Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Sudan. They recently have adopted a new son! Really sharp couple that have been in South Africa now for 3 years. This is a very good blog and Steven has some great content. Be sure to read about his travels to Zimbabwe.
  • Mark and Jenn Storm – Another sharp couple, living in Asia. Mark and Jenn have been with ServLife for over two years and have a beautiful son, Solomon, who was born right around the time Ethan was.  Another really great blog with tales of adventure, from tomato strikes, to motorcycle rides in rural Nepal, to monkey sightings, and more..

RSS Awareness Day, Subscribe to the HurryHome.com RSS Feed

Today is RSS Awareness Day, and if you aren’t familiar with RSS, it’s a great way to stay updated with your favorite blogs and Web sites. Here’s some info. on it:

“RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format used to deliver information from websites and pages that get updated regularly. An RSS document (which is called feed) contains either a summary or the full content from a website. The main benefit of RSS is that it enables people to stay connected with their favorite websites. Once you subscribe to a particular RSS feed, you will automatically receive updates from the website that publishes the feed, whenever they release new content.” Check out the following Web sites to learn more:

Australian Photographer to Check Out, Peter Lik

peterlik.jpgIf you haven’t seen any of Peter Lik’s work, you need to check out his Web site, www.peterlik.com. You can also do an image search in Google and find all kinds of pictures, just search “Peter Lik”.

He’s an amazing panoramic photographer, mostly shooting landscape images. He is from Australia, but has since moved to the United States and has shot all over the country. I was first introduced to his photography by my friend Mike, when I went to visit him in Australia while he was studying there in 2001. I got an opportunity to visit Peter’s original gallery in Cairnes, in North East Australia, and Bridget and I went to his gallery in Maui in May of 2007. He has other galleries in Hawaii, Las Vegas, California, Colorado, Florida, one in New York soon to come,..So, if you get an opportunity to see his prints in person, it’s quite the experience. His work is pretty pricey, but you can get posters, calendars, postcards, coffee table books, etc.. relatively inexpensive. Check out the store on his Web site or elsewhere on the Internet. I included a few pics I found of his online and a promo video Peter has out on YouTube, enjoy!

The Story of Stuff (Video)

Check out this video that sheds some light on our consumption patterns here in the West, pretty eye opening.. ic_video.gif http://www.storyofstuff.com/ (20:40)

Summary of the video from their site: ”From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world.
