Hurrys Chi-Town Adventure
Earlier this month, Bridget, Ethan and I spent the weekend in Chicago and introduced our little man to the “Windy City”. We got to get away as a family and experience Chicago together and it was great to see the city during the Christmas season, all decked out in holiday decorations.
We stayed at Hotel 71 which is in a great location downtown on the Chicago River, within walking distance to some downtown hot spots. We arrived on a Friday evening and started the wknd out with a pizza delivered from Giordano’s, one of our favorite Chicago pizza spots and spent the rest of the evening getting settled. The Hurry family loves pizza (especially Chicago style)!
Saturday, we got to spend the day walking around the city, checking out some shops. We took Ethan through Macys (Chicago’s original Marshall Fields) so he could see all the decorations and toys they had displayed. We also picked up some world famous Frangos Mint Meltaway Chocolates and stopped by the Walnut Room briefly to check out the amazing Christmas tree setup there. We then spent the remainder
of the morning in Millenium Park and had lunch at Park Grill, a restaurant right in front of Cloud Gate (otherwise known as “The Bean”. ) There was an outdoor ice skating rink right in front of the restaurant, so we had a great view of all the action from our window seat. We relaxed at the hotel in the afternoon and headed back out for the evening for a stroll down Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile” and had dinner at foodlife, located in Water Tower Place.
Sunday morning, we had breakfast at the Tempo Cafe, had some great food there and wrapped up our Chicago visit shortly thereafter. It was nice to get away for the weekend. Enjoy the pics!

ServLife Staff Blogs to Check Out
I work for ServLife International, a global missions organization, and I wanted to share some blogs of some of our staff members that are very well done and fascinating to follow.
- Joel Vestal- ServLife President and founder. Joel is my boss and he is the founder of ServLife, which he began 15 years ago while a student at Baylor. He has since traveled to over 70 countries, has helped start ministries all over the world, he’s a big reader and always has interesting and challenging things to share, he preaches all over the U.S., has written a book published by NavPress, Dangerous Faith, and always has posts documenting his travels.
- Steven and Amy Nicholson – The Nicholsons are based in South Africa and also have ongoing ministries in Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Sudan. They recently have adopted a new son! Really sharp couple that have been in South Africa now for 3 years. This is a very good blog and Steven has some great content. Be sure to read about his travels to Zimbabwe.
- Mark and Jenn Storm – Another sharp couple, living in Asia. Mark and Jenn have been with ServLife for over two years and have a beautiful son, Solomon, who was born right around the time Ethan was. Another really great blog with tales of adventure, from tomato strikes, to motorcycle rides in rural Nepal, to monkey sightings, and more..

Tabla Madal Jam in a Kathmandu Music Store
I recently returned from a mission trip to India and Nepal with a team from our church. We went on the trip with ServLife International (the mission organization I work for) We traveled to ServLife’s ministry campus In Bihar, India to help with the annual leadership conference that takes place there and to provide spiritual, administrative, and logistical support to the ServLife team and children’s orphanage there. We also spent a few days in Nepal on the way back and got to see some of ServLife’s ministries there as well. I will be posting more pics. and video from the trip in future posts.
I wanted to share this little clip I recorded in a music shop in Kathmandu, Nepal, of the owner playing a setup with tabla and madal drums. Pretty cool… (Found this site where you can play tablas online, give it a go)
